Tratamos de seguir la filosofía personal. En primer lugar ello significa que tenemos nuestro concepto personal de Dios. Por otra parta significa también que deberíamos tener nuestra propia experiencia de Dios. Y en tercer lugar significaría que somos muy personales en nuestros actos. En esta canción, “Shri Shri Shad Goswami Ashtakam”, podemos sentir la gratitud personal de los vaishnavas  por sus superiores…Podemos describir teóricamente la grandeza de los goswamis tesis científicas – o podemos cantar esta canción tan saturada de emociones romeras.

 Bhakti significa roce personal.  Por lo tanto en algunos casos los devotos bhakta suelen practicar rutinariamente.  Veo que para vosotros es algo sorprendente y asombroso pero ocurre a veces. También a veces podéis rozar una actitud personal, profunda y saturada de emociones y gratitud. Ello es lo que buscamos  ya que cuando estéis conectados  con aquella llanura, no existirán obstáculos por vuestro camino espiritual. La transmisión de fuerzas hace que lo insignificante llega a ser grandioso, el servidor llega a ser señor y el señor se transforma en servidor.

Es lo que precisamente ocurre con los goswamis, gente muy respetada por todos que siempre se sentía y comportaba como humildes servidores para todos. En el mismo tiempo ellos eran los pilares de la ciencia devocional y también eran héroes del renuncio, siendo también los mejores en cantar mantras y mucho más de todo ello.

Cuando y si lleguéis a alcanzar la gracia, será vuestra inversión en la vida. Podéis despilfarrarla en el mercado de las relaciones materiales, podéis invertirla en la tesorería del nombre santo. ¿Sois buenos inversores? ¿Acaso necesitáis au consejero en vuestros asuntos financieros? Todos necesitamos a un consejero en los asuntos de la devoción dedicada. Y al seguir en ello el ejemplo de los goswamis, irán creciendo vuestros activos.

Por todo ello, ¡guardad en vuestros corazones el ánimo de goswamis!

Love is such a special potency that cannot be manufactured artificially. You cannot artificially love somebody. This is a natural tendency. And it is very powerful. When it is coming, it just knocks you off your feet. Even if kama comes, it is very strong. What to speak of prema?! Prema is the original love, kama is only a fake, second-hand love. And still kama is so strong, when it comes to you, it just finishes you – no brain. Sometimes it is nice to have that experience – that you cannot fight with kama. Because from this you can understand: if the reflection is so strong, ah, what is the power of the original! If prema would come to you in the same way as kama comes, you would die on the spot.

So our loving capacity is a natural tendency, but we should not waste our loving capacity on the kama platform, we should preserve it to be used on prema platform.

And now it is almost May, this is the time for kama. All the trees are blossoming, all the bees start to hum, birds are chirping, everybody is searching for his or her partner. You can see the blackbirds; they are so much under the impression of kama, that they are ready to jump under the cars. Haven’t you seen? Sometimes they are so much in love, that they fight with each other and then they are smashed under the cars. It’s a very good lesson to observe: how this energy is working in the material world; how the living entities are under the control of Kamadeva. You could say: “Ah, but this is the beauty of life!” No, this is a fake reflection of the original. And still it is so charming.

But if you want to become a yogi then springtime is not your season. Because yogi means control and springtime is not talking about controlling, but about unlimited waves of emotions. And what is the colour of this (sannyas) cloth? This is not the colour of spring, this is the colour of autumn. When everything turns away from the hustle of life in order to achieve a higher level of existence. From life to existence; from knowledge to wisdom, from happiness to bliss.

And how can you fight or relieve yourself from the control of kama? Can you fight? Yes? No, not really. Kama is much stronger than you. Krishna is the original Kamadeva. Material Kamadeva gives only kama, material pleasure. And he comes very close, when you want, naturally you want to enjoy some happiness. So he is coming, trying to satisfy: “Ah, I am here! What do you need? I give everything.” You can get rid of the influence of Kamadeva only when you come closer to Krishna.  Somehow they cannot tolerate each other. Because both want your emotions. So if you sell your soul to Kamadeva, he will take possession: “From now on you are my servant, you do what I tell you.” Then your life starts. And then you go in one direction and you will have complete lifestyle and finally you will realize: “Ah, I made a mistake.” If you consider the transcendental Kamadeva, Krishna, He is the emblematic figure of divine love. He also says: “From today you are My servant. And I will give you everything that you need.” He is also doing a good propaganda for His case. But at the end you will not be frustrated, that is the difference.

Because whatever rasa we achieve on the material platform, it will be lost. And please, excuse me, I don’t want to be negative, it is realistic. I am not pessimistic, I am realistic. Whatever you possess materially, you will lose it. On the coffin there is no pocket. You cannot take anything with you. Everything that you gather, collect, achieve, materially, physically, mentally you will just have to leave. Even material emotions you shall lose. But the divine connection will remain. Soul to soul connection will remain, will stay. This is real rasa. This is one little hidden pocket in the coffin, where you can collect your spiritual treasures.

Todo ello nos enseña que somos todos hermanos y hermanas. No sólo en nuestro templo o en la iglesia ortodoxa – sin embargo no son hermanos nuestros los romano-católicos ni qué hablar de los budistas o de los judíos, de éstos o aquéllos…

La religión divide y separa a la gente. La fe llega a reunirla. Ya que la religión es relativa. La fe es absoluta, es trascendente. A pesar de todo ello, hay que mantener las prácticas religiosas. En el nombre de unir y reunir todas las „no sé qué cosas” no debemos abandonar nuestras propias prácticas. Nuestros maestros tienen esta visión. Cuando preguntaron a Shrila Prabhupada si era o no era bueno de convertir la fe de la gente, el respondió diciendo: “No es necesario convertir su fe.” Dijo también: “Si eres Cristiano, sé buen Cristiano. Si eres Musulmán, sé buen Musulmán.” Debes hacer tu práctica con sinceridad y profundidad. Si eres devoto dedicado, sé devoto dedicado. Ya que el Amor Divino está más allá del formalismo religioso. Или пък, че е лекувал с дланта си, което отново се практикува на Изток. Или най-славното му и известно действие – че той на практика е умрял, а после е възкръснал – което се практикува от някои йоги. Те забавят телесните функции, погребват се на двадесет метра под земята в ковчег за две седмици, после някой ги изважда и те се връщат към живот. Много необикновено! Цялата християнска вяра се основава на възкресението на Исус Христос, а йогите могат да го правят, при това без да създават религия около това.

Подобни действия били изключително необичайни в западната част на Средния Изток, но някои хора били много добре запознати с тях на Изток, в Индия. Или, ако се опитате да сравните ученията на Бог Исус и източния начин на мислене, ще откриете много паралели. Въпреки че се казва, че дори в Новия Завет само около 6-8 % от думите могат да се считат за негови оригинални изказвания. Но както и да е, това е различен въпрос. Ez azt mutatja, hogy mi mind fivérek és nővérek vagyunk. Nem csak a mi kis templomunkban, vagy egy pravoszláv egyházban – de a római katolikusok azok nem annyira a testvéreik, mit sem szólva a buddhistákról vagy a zsidókról, stb… A vallás megosztja az embereket. A hit egyesíti. Mert a vallás relatív. A hit abszolút, transzcendentális. Mindazonáltal kövessük a vallásos gyakorlatokat is. Nem szabad feladunk gyakorlatainkat azon a címen, hogy mindenkit egyesítsünk. Tanítóink rendelkeztek ezzel a látásmóddal. Amikor megkérdezték Sríla Prabhupádot, hogy vajon jó-e megtéríteni az embereket vagy nem, így válaszolt: „Nem szükséges megtéríteni őket.” Így folytatta: „Ha keresztény vagy, légy jó keresztény. Ha muszlim vagy, legyél jó muszlim.” Kövesd őszintén és mélyen gyakorlataidat. Ha bhakta vagy, légy bhakta. Mert az istenszeretet túl van a vallásos formalitásokon. És Isten nem tagja egyik vallásos szervezetnek sem a Föld bolygón.

Question: My question is as follows: there is a book, recently appeared, that documents the youth of Jesus Christ and there it is described that the years between his childhood and last years when he was preaching he spent in India, especially in Kashmir, and he learned there the science which is described here. What is your opinion about this version, is this true?

Tirtha Maharaj: Well, personally I can accept that theory. Because it is very unusual that such a great personality like Lord Jesus some almost twenty years are missing from his life. Very unusual! He disappeared or what? He was introduced to the temple, he was preaching to the high priests and all of a sudden disappeared for twenty years. Right, and then he acts like a simple carpenter. Very unusual – that missing part of the story. And actually this is a period for any man to collect more knowledge, to learn, to study. And if we examine the later activities of Jesus and if we know something about the secrets and mystic powers of yogis, it is very similar. For example Lord Jesus was able to pacify the natural forces, the storm on the sea. And according to some yoga practices, you can gain such a power, that you can influence nature. Or the other thing: he was walking on the water, which is another famous achievement of yoga. Or: he was healing by the hand. Which is again practiced in the East. Or the most glorious and the most famous activity of his – that he practically dies and then came back to life – which is practiced by some yogis. They slow down the bodily functions, bury themselves under the earth, like twenty meters down in a coffin for two weeks, then somebody takes them back and they come back to life. Very unusual! The whole Christian faith is based on the resurrection of Lord Jesus – yogis can do that. Although they do not establish a religion on it.

So, these activities were very unusual in the western part of the Middle East, but some people were very well acquainted with these in the East, India. Or, if you try to compare the teachings of Lord Jesus and the eastern way of thinking, you will find many parallels. Although they say that even from the New Testament only like 6-8 % of the sentences can be traced back to him, original sayings. But anyway, this is a different question. So you can find many parallels, many similarities between the life style and this missing time, the activities and the teachings also. We can say: coincidence. But if you go to Kashmir and if you ask the local people of a certain village – I forgot the name of the village – where they preserve the tomb of Isa: the name is Isa, they have an Upanishad, revealed scripture, called Isa Upanishad. And usually the Upanishads, the secret teachings, sometimes are named after the teacher. And these local priests that take care of the tomb will tell you that yes, somebody returned, came to India from West as a preacher. Son of God, he is called son of God. And actually there was a Russian traveller, Alexander Notovich, who I think in the end of the 19th century has travelled to Kashmir and to Tibet to different places and he met such monks, who had knowledge about Jesus. There were some scriptures in the eastern monasteries, describing some activities of Jesus. It is said that he travelled even to Jagannath Puri, even to Bengal, this part – so practically the whole India Isa has travelled through.

But it is up to the person – if somebody accepts these versions or doubts. And of course we should not question the faith and the basic tenets of Christianity. But some people say that after reading of “Bhagavad Gita”, for example, they understand the Bible much better. Because the language or the topic is the same – love of Godhead and divine topics – but certain points are maybe more elaborate or more divert, directly given.

We respect the faith of all pure-hearted practitioners and we are sure that by following any authorized, bona fide path you can reach back home, back to Godhead. So, the parallels are striking. We should think. And what more – we should also think, if Lord Jesus would return, because half of the world waits for the second advent of Lord Jesus, if he would come in orange robes, with shaved head, dancing and singing, but telling the same message, would you recognize him? Or you say: “Ah, this is something strange for me, where is his beard?” So, we should come to some essential points. And if you examine the teachings, hardly you can find any big, major controversies.

This shows that we are all brothers and sisters. Not only in our small temple or in a pravoslav church – but the Roman Catholics they are not so much our brothers, what to speak of the Buddhists, or the Jews, or this or that… Religion separates humans. Faith unites. Because religion is relative. Faith is absolute, transcendental. Nevertheless, stick to religious practices also. In the name of unifying all the “I don’t know what” we should not give up our practice. And our teachers had this vision. When they asked Shrila Prabhupada whether it is good to convert people or not, he said: “It is not necessary to convert them.” He said: “If you are a Christian, be a good Christian. If you are a Muslim, be a good Muslim.” Do your practice sincerely, deeply. If you are a devotee, be a devotee. Because divine love is beyond the religious formalities. And God is not a member of any religious organization on the planet Earth.

English: Krishna being not only the Supreme – according to the mood, He is revealed in particular forms. Developing the attitude of giving something to the Lord, instead of only requesting. The loving exchange between God and His devotees.

“Regulated knowledge involves a gradual raising of the living entity to the spiritual platform, and the highest spiritual realization is knowledge that the Personality of Godhead is the reservoir of all spiritual tastes, or rasas. Every living entity, beginning from Brahmā, the first-born living being within the material world, down to the insignificant ant, desires to relish some sort of taste derived from sense perceptions. These sensual pleasures are technically called rasas. Such rasas are of different varieties. In the revealed scriptures the following twelve varieties of rasas are enumerated: (1) raudra (anger), (2) adbhuta (wonder), (3) shringara (conjugal love), (4) hasya (comedy), (5) vira (chivalry), (6) daya (mercy), (7) dasya (servitorship), (8) sakhya (fraternity), (9) bhayanaka (horror), (10) bibhatsa (shock), (11) shanta (neutrality), (12) vatsalya (parenthood).”[1]

Conjugal like husband and wife? Conjugal is different. Conjugal is beyond rules and regulations. Shringara is when you have a lover. When you don’t have a lover, then you are a faithful wife. That is not shringara. Shringara is when you have extra. You have normal condition and you have something extra. Conjugal actually does mean beyond rules and regulations. This is svakiya and parakiya. Anyway, we are at the beginning, so we can stay at svakiya, no problem, we can stay at official relationship between God and His servitors, no problem. Shringara is definitely the ecstatic mood; it is not the everyday mood.

So this book[2] is essentially discussing rasa or the connection with God Supreme: how you can be attached, how you can be connected. And here Shrila Prabhupada says: “The sum total of all these rasas is called affection or love.” So simple! Scientifically there are twelve rasas, but actually there is only one rasa and this is the affectionate rasa. Here it is called “love” and this is too much used expression – love, love, love. Better we practice, not only speak about this.

This loving capacity is the natural tendency of the soul. But if we waste this energy on a very basic level, then we shall not get the fruit. Do you remember what was the general definition of sin?

Bhakti Shakti: Action against God.

Tirtha Maharaj: That is also true, definitely.

Manohari: When you repeat one mistake again and again.

Tirtha Maharaj: A permanent mistake is called a sin. But here another definition is necessary: when you use a higher type of energy for some lower goal. Do you agree? If you think, it is not only a mistake, it is not a mistake, it is a sin. Because you use, and this is by intention, this is not by chance. So if you use something higher for a lower purpose, it is called sin. And what is the highest type of energy that you have? What is that? This is the loving capacity. So don’t waste that energy on nonsense! You should use this for the best purpose. Therefore we practice bhakti-yoga, connection through love. This is the best use of your loving capacity – if you love Krishna, Radha-Krishna. Don’t waste your energy on lower levels.

So, rasa is for the soul, it is not for the body. Cultivate your loving capacity for the best purpose, best goal. And here Shrila Prabhupada very nicely explains: “Primarily, such signs of love are manifested in adoration, service, friendship, paternal affection, and conjugal love.” So, whatever is here can only exist because it exists in the original form. Like here like there. The only problem with the material world is that it is a distorted reflection. Therefore we should come to the original: not only vastu, but vastava-vastu – the original original, the real reality. Don’t be satisfied with anything lower.
